Meet the team

James Anthony | Owner & Director

James’ extensive knowledge of the industry can be traced back to his teenage years working alongside his father in the business during the early days.

On graduating from university, James pursued a career in the financial sector where he gained invaluable managerial and business experience before formally returning to head up the company in 2009 upon his father’s retirement. Since then M D Anthony has continued to flourish under James’ leadership, with James recognising the importance of maintaining a strong and dynamic team alongside him.

Outside of the business James continues to be instrumental in industry developments, having previously served as Chairman of the Rural Industrial Design and Building Association (RIDBA) where he was at the forefront of an industry modernisation and improvement programme, he is currently serving as the Immediate Past Chairman on the RIDBA Board.

Brian Day | Director

The longest serving member of our management team, Brian’s career in the steelwork and cladding industry began straight from school before joining M D Anthony in 1989 at a time when the company was still in its infancy. Brian takes credit for much of the direction the company has taken to date using his client focused empathy and understanding of client needs to develop and grow a customer base returning time and time again. Brian has a natural talent for the technical side of the business with a superb eye for detail, making him the go-to person for design based input.

Mark Hurworth | Director

Mark’s relationship with M D Anthony began in 1992 when he joined as an estimator. After a period away gaining experience in design, detailing and contracts management but remaining in contact and on good terms with the company throughout, Mark was approached by James to return as a Director in 2012, a position which he was all too happy to accept.

Mark’s initial remit was to guide the company through the CE Marking legislative process, a process which saw him qualify as a responsible welding co-ordinator on the way to successful accreditation in 2014. Mark is known for his dynamic and proactive approach which continues to drive the company forward.

Jo Board | Accountant

Jo joined M D Anthony in 2015 and has updated and modernised the accounting function to ensure effective financial and management accounting across the organisation, improving cost management and reporting to ensure that contracts are delivered within targeted cost, ultimately providing value for money for the customer.  A qualified accountant, Jo’s natural enthusiasm and positive attitude continues to shine through into all aspects of work making her an invaluable asset.

In addition to the financial aspect of her role, Jo takes an important lead in many other areas of the business including Health & Safety, training and marketing.

Steve Kearns | Contracts Manager

Steve joined as Contracts Manager in 2005 continuing his long and varied career in the steelwork and cladding industry where he has gained a wealth of experience in all aspects of the business, particularly the refurbishment sector. Steve’s dedicated approach and personable nature makes him the perfect link between management, sub-contractors and the client. Being unflappable is a key attribute of a successful Contracts Manager and Steve’s ability to remain unfazed and fair in the most challenging of situations makes him the ideal choice for this role.

Barry Hastings | Project Manager

Barry joined M D Anthony as an estimator in 1998 before leaving to gain further experience within the industry in 2006. He returned as a Project Manager in 2014 to further the company’s growth and has continued to impress with his thorough and meticulous approach, thus cementing his position as a key member of the management team. Barry’s diligent and conscientious work ethic has enabled him to build a loyal customer base who can always rely on his ability to deliver.

Josh Ashman | Project Manager

Having joined in November 2016, Josh is a natural addition to assist with the company’s growth and ever-increasing workload. With his roots in estimating and a good understanding of project management, Josh continues to develop his skills and industry knowledge under the guidance of Steve Kearns. Josh has a breadth of knowledge which enables the flexibility which is essential for dealing with the challenges faced by any busy Contracts Department.

Pete Morris | Workshop Manager

Pete is M D Anthony’s longest serving employee, boasting in excess of 35 years with the company. As the company has grown he has seen his role change from general site operative to the responsible position he holds now as Workshop Manager. As a qualified welder and highly skilled site operative able to turn his hand to all aspects of the work, Pete’s loyalty and conscientiousness make him a highly regarded and instrumental member of the team.

Paul Staras | Estimating Manager

Paul joined us in January 2018 as Estimating Manager, his first task being to modernise and improve our existing estimating systems.  Paul's natural attention to detail and accuracy together with his unquestioned wealth of expertise and knowledge gained from 30 years experience within the industry makes him the obvious choice to fulfil this pivotal new role within the company.
