5x WINNER AT THE RIDBA BUILDING AWARDS

FAMILY-RUN BUSINESS ESTABLISHED IN 1977

BASED IN ELY AND COVERING NATIONWIDE

WINNERS OF THE RIDBA BUILDING AWARDS ACROSS SEVERAL YEARS!

Established in 1977, MD Anthony has grown to become an award-winning business in the East Midlands, and we are extremely proud of our success. We collected our first RIBDA Building Award in 2017 and have won a further 6 Awards over the years. This included being announced as the winner of the Industrial and Production Building Award in 2023. In 2021, MD Anthony’s Lingwood House in Cambridgeshire was the overall winner of the RIDBA Building Awards for that year. It won this coveted award by achieving a net zero carbon rating without the need for compromising on design or increasing costs. You can read more about the project below and have a look at some of our other projects too. We specialise in structural steel and cladding for the commercial and agricultural sectors, as well as for equestrian buildings, utility buildings and more. Get in touch to chat to our team.

LINGWOOD HOUSE'S SUCCESS

Environmental issues and climate change have rightly been receiving a great deal of media attention, and we believe as an industry we must show that buildings can shape the environment. With Lingwood House we worked with the latest materials and technology to tackle this challenge, from a Kingspan Energy photovoltaic system to power the building’s ventilation system and fleet electric charge points, to the sleek Kingspan QuadCore insulated panels on the exterior. Aside from the environmental challenges, we faced the extremely complicated task of working through Network Rail’s approval processes - including sign-off of design intent, certificate of design and the construction phase, with each part needing to be undertaken by a different structural engineer.

BEAUTIFULLY DESIGNED BUILDINGS WITH STRUCTURAL STEEL AND CLADDING

With the culmination of careful planning, patience and the long-term benefits in mind, we were able to achieve a positive environmental effect and a Co2 emission rating of – (minus) 14.3 Kg/m2 as per the Building Regulations UK Part L report. Along with being an impressive net zero building, Lingwood House is beautifully designed, consisting of a minimal open-plan office on the first floor overlooking the city centre and Ely Cathedral. Just off the open-plan area is a kitchen, meeting room and stairs which lead to a boardroom on the ground floor, another meeting room, shower and washroom facilities, kitchen, and a large warehouse.

"I recently headed to MD Anthony to have a closer look at their award-winning offices. From my visit, it was clear to see why the judges selected Lingwood House as the overall winner of the 2021 RIDBA Building Awards. So much thought has gone into the project, from the eco-friendly design to the interior fit out, it really is a fantastic, carefully considered building."

2023 Winner of the Industrial & Production RIDBA Building Awards

Collapsible Dock Shelters, Combi controls with LED traffic lights, dock lights, bumpers and wheel guides and pre-cast dock leveller pits with tailgate slots all in accordance with a detailed brief provided by our client. The building is fronted with architectural wall cladding, colour graded horizontally blue to white to give the aesthetic effect of blending into the sky on a fine day and thus minimizing the impact on the scenic environment as far as possible.

Site - One of several large, commercial buildings completed by M D Anthony Ltd on this site, situated on the outskirts of Woolpit, Suffolk off the A14. The site was managed to an exemplary standard with Health and Safety remaining at the forefront of every plan and decision made.

Steel Tonnage – 136 tonnes.

Performance and Sustainability – The building boasts a high level of insulation performance comprising 90mm thick mineral wool insulation within the TAC tray, 80mm thick rigid PIR and 40mm thick mineral wool. The exposed internal TAC tray comprises a food safe lining as regulated for the brewing process. The steel frame is galvanised, and the external cladding and purpose made flashings are aluminium to minimise maintenance and prolong the lifespan of the building.

Site:  Rathmoy Stables, Newmarket, Suffolk

Construction – 36m long x 13m span steel portal frame building to form and 18 box American barn with vet and tack rooms complete with purpose designed penthouse ventilator units.

Building Performance – 80mm thick insulated composite roof panels to support a tiled roof complete with vented penthouse turrets have not only helped with the environmental qualities but have also enhanced the aesthetics.

Site and Delivery – The site, situated adjacent to Newmarket Racecourse, together with the very high expectations of the client in respect of noise and site housekeeping, demanded the highest level of effective contract planning and management as befits a working stable yard.

Awards – Overall winner of the Equestrian category in the 2017 RIDBA Building Awards.

2019 Winner of the Recreation and Leisure RIDBA Building Awards
Site:  The Orangery - Rushton Hall, Rushton, Northants

Behind the stunning façade of this building lies a cleverly designed structural steel frame necessary to support the large loadings and harsh moment forces imposed by the Ashlar stone blocks, some of which weigh in excess of 3 tonnes. The steel frame is millimetre precise and level to ensure a perfect fit of the computer modelled and bespoke stone blocks.

Building Size – in excess of 900m2 including function rooms, foyer, kitchens and accommodation areas.

Steel Tonnage – 40 tonnes

Awards – Winner in the Recreation and Leisure category at the 2019 RIDBA Building Awards. This project was praised by the judges for its traditional look using modern materials and its completion on time despite the numerous site challenges faced.

2019 Winner of the Residential RIDBA Building Awards.
Site:  The Y House, Cambridge

General Brief – The Y House is a bespoke eco-friendly domestic dwelling for a private tenant in Cambridge. Particular drivers for the project were to maximise the opportunities for views and daylight whilst respecting the privacy of the neighbours. We were contracted to supply and erect the structural steel frame which formed the basis of the unique Y shaped structure designed to widen out towards the garden from the entrance. The house was intended to be an environmentally low impact home designed and built using materials and technology to reduce its carbon footprint and lower its energy use and as such steel was the natural choice for the structural frame. A particularly challenging project which demanded a high degree of design input and site accuracy due to the complexity of the design.

Awards – This project won the residential prize in the 2019 RIDBA Building Awards.
